'The Columbia is lost'
7 astronauts die as shuttle breaks apart
High over Texas and just short of home, space shuttle Columbia
fell to pieces Saturday, raining debris over hundreds of miles of
countryside. Seven astronauts perished - a gutwrenching loss for
a country and world already staggered by tragedy.
Columbia's problems began on left wing
Investigators focused immediately on the possibility that its
thermal tiles were damaged far more seriously than NASA realized
by a piece of debris during liftoff.
A NATION MOURNS
U.S. shocked at news tragedy
"With all that is happening these days, it's a very bad
feeling," said Nancy Mitchell, a hardware store clerk in
Confluence, Pa. "It's just one more thing - a tragedy."

Many people are not ready to accept the reality of what's going
on, yet a part of them suspects, or they wouldn't bother
expending their energy to put your work down.
I like what you wrote about the tile on your site. I was
listening to the news today, and a NASA spokesman said that there
is no way that the loss of the tile(s) could have caused the loss
of the craft. At least some of us know when we are being lied to.
I, too, feel for the poor NASA people who had nothing at all to
do with the shuttle's destruction, but who must be questioning
whether they did whatever they could to make it safe. I think
some, if not most or all, of them know that this was done by
forces beyond the shuttle itself.
